Established in 1949, the Westerns Roos are based in Portland and compete in the South West District Football Netball League.

The club has been a part of the SWDFL since 1970. Prior to that the Roos participated in the Heywood and District Football League (1949–1954) and the Portland District Football League (1955–1969).

After breaking through for their first senior premiership in 1984, the Roos claimed four flags in a row between 1997 and 2000.
